On night three of the protests, riots and looting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the third precinct where the four officers involved in the death of George Floyd worked, has went up in flames. It was confirmed all police officers in the building were evacuated.
Overall, the City of Minneapolis has been on fire over the last couple of days. Pawn shops, restaurants, car shops all set to flames. The Target in the city continues to get looted for the second day in a row. This all comes after prosecutors say they do not have enough evidence to press charges, but claims justice will be served.
We mourn the loss of yet another black man, George Floyd, who moved to Minneapolis to start a new life according to Christopher Harris, his life long friend. A video went viral as a former police officer, Derek Chauvin, placed his knee in Floyd's neck while he was already handcuffed as Floyd pleaded. "I can't breathe, please, the knee in my neck!" Begging for water, calling out for his mom, but the officer never lets up until the ambulance arrives. By then Floyd's body is already limp and shortly thereafter he passes away at Hennepin County Medical Center. It's important to note the police arrived on a non-violent "Forgery in process" call but it's no doubt Floyd's death was violent.
The family of George Floyd is calling for all four officers Derek Chauvin, Tou Thao, J Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane to be prosecuted. Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman says "My job in the end is to prove he violated a criminal statute. And there is other evidence that does not support a criminal charge. We need to wade through all of that evidence and come to a meaningful decision and we are doing that to the best of our ability."
