The unofficial announcement of Jay-Z/Roc Nation and their new deal with the NFL took everyone by surprise on Tuesday! Although the announcement is unofficial, it is OFFICIAL Jay and Roc Nation will become the NFL's "live music entertainment strategist." This comes after years of decreasing views during the big game as a result of plenty controversy over Colin Kaepernick. Jay-Z has been very vocal in his support towards Kaepernick and others who chose to kneel in support of discrimination.
"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," says Kaepernick in a 2016 interview with the NFL media.
"The NFL has a great platform, and it has to be all-inclusive" - a statement from Jay--Z in his new role. Speaking of his new role, what is a live music entertainment strategist? That's a fancy way of saying Jay-Z and his team will be heavily involved in the league's social justice campaign. They'll also be consulting on the Super Bowl halftime show and bring in some big names to perform at league events.
This will also be the start of the NFL's new campaign, Inspire Change. This new initiative will donate money to groups fighting for criminal justice reform, opportunities in economically challenged areas and better relations between the police and local communities.
