Rachel Minaya, the wife of former New York Mets general manager and current New York Yankees executive Omar Minaya, was found dead at the couple's New Jersey home on Saturday (July 20), the New York Post reports, citing a person briefed by the family.

The source said that suicide had been ruled out as a cause of death and Omar wasn't present at the home when Rachel's body was discovered. The Minayas, who initially met at a Manhattan hair salon in 1989, share two adult sons, Justin, an NBA forward who appeared in the Las Vegas Summer League tournament for the Portland Trail Blazers last month and Teddy.

Omar joined the Yankees as a senior adviser to general manager Brian Cashman prior to the 2023 MLB season. The Dominican native previously worked as the Mets' general manager from 2004-10, which included the notable signings of All-Star outfielder Carlos Beltrán and eventual Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martínez, and rejoined the franchise as a special assistant to multiple successors from 2017-20.

Minaya also served as the general manager for the Montreal Expos prior to the team's relocation and repackaging as the Washington Nationals, as well as the vice president of the San Diego Padres and a scout for the Texas Rangers.
